fresh cut flowersAlthough flower arranging can be used with fresh flowers and artificial flowers/silk flowers as well, there is nothing better than having a vase of fresh flowers around your home. Especially when the flowers have nice smell as well, it is a pure pleasure to be in that room. Sadly, cut flowers only stay fresh for a day or two before they become wiltered and start to smell ugy.Although nothing can make fresh flowers to stay for eternity fresh and vibrant, there are some tricks to keep them fresh for a couple days longer.

All you need for this are household items: water, scissors and aspirin, and this is what you need to do:

  1. Cut the stems of your flowers at a sharp angle before putting them in fresh water. You need to cut the stems because this way theĀ  water can travel up the stem, which will help prevent early wilting and fading. Every time you change the flowers in new water, clip a bit more of the stem.
  2. When you place the flowers in the vase, you need to remove all the leaves that are going under the water, because the flowers and leaves underwater usually decay faster, making sure that your flowers will die sooner too.
  3. So what’s up with aspirine? Take an aspirin and crush it with the back of a spoon into a fine powder. Place this in the vase, mixing it with water. Only after that put the flowers in the vase. Every time you change you water, add a crushed aspirin in the water, mix it well. You will see the flowers will last much longer this way.
  4. If you are blessed with a room that has plenty of direct sunlight, make sure your flowers don’t get it. Direct sun will make the flowers wilter much soon.
  5. Make sure you replace the water in the vase every second day. Any longer than that and the bacteria will start to work at your flowers, killing them inside out. Clean fresh and cool water (mixed with aspirine) will ensure keep your flowers fresh for much longer.

By following these tips you will have the pleasure of keeping your fresh cut flowers for much longer in your home.
